'SPOOKS' interview
Tuesday February 26, 2008
iF: How did this project come about?

SCHIFRIN: SPOOKS was originally a film concept that HITMAN producer Daniel Alter and I came up with before Halloween a few years ago. I wanted to do a genre project that was action and horror and fantasy, so we came up with the idea of doing military versus monsters, using everything I love about Halloween and the classic monsters, the time of year, and doing it as a big epic. I actually wrote it as a screenplay first. We then realized it would be smarter to turn it into a comic book and see where that takes us. I approached my favorite author, R.A. Salvatore at the 2006 Comic Con to see if he’d like to work on it. He took my screenplay, and with his sons Geno and Bryan they wrote a new treatment which changed the tone, making it more gritty, realistic and dark. As I like to say, more ALIENS, less MEN IN BLACK.

SPOOKS
Thursday January 31, 2008
SPOOKS website has gone live and is gearing up for the release. SPOOKS is the name of a secret branch of the government that guards humanity from things that go bump in the night, and when the king of all vampires allies with the deadliest of witches, it unleashes an invasion of classic monsters on Washington DC, calling the SPOOKS team into action.

Devil's Due will publish the comic book as a four issue miniseries in early to mid 2008. The concept, created by Ryan Schifrin (director of the cult horror hit Abominable) and Daniel Alter ( producer: Hitman) has been in the works for two years. When legendary fantasy author RA Salvatore (Forgotten Realms, DemonWars) and Larry Hama (G.I.Joe, Wolverine) came on board it was all the series needed.
